Bush's Senate visit fails to move GOP on immigration bill

(06-13) 04:00 PDT Washington -- President Bush came on bended knee to the Senate on Tuesday with such diminished credibility that renegade senators in his own party insisted he prove he's serious about securing the border before they consider his broad approach to immigration reform.

So unruly are the Republican senators that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas drew an analogy with Bush's approach to his adult twin daughters.

Hutchison said Bush promised Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Alabama Republican who has led opposition to the president's bipartisan immigration bill, that he would still attend a fundraiser for Sessions in his home state.
